It is produced mainly via the chloride or sulfate process, and is coated with alumina and/or silica for enhanced dispersion, weather resistance, and durability. Due to its excellent lightfastness and chemical stability, rutile TiO₂ is widely used in paints, coatings, plastics, inks, and outdoor-use applications.
